People living in the UK are blown away by the dedication of its NHS staff, working in difficult and stressful situation.
We wanted to celebrate all the staff from cleaners and admin staff as well as of course the doctors and nurses. A chance tweet from one of our customers, Katie, a Chaplin at Newcastle Hospital on Twitter requesting a celebratory superhero shirt led to a collaboration with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to produce this fun superhero design.
As well as enabling folk to show their appreciation by wearing one, we wanted to give back in a practical way: 10% of the sale price will be divided between NHS Charities Together and Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity.
Designed by one of our regular freelance designers Emery Allard Smith, this colourful design is the perfect summer shirt for these unusal Covid 19 times.
This design features silhouette style figures in scrubs with contrasting capes and also shows symbols representing some of the other non-clinical roles. The design is also going to be used in Newcastle Hospitals for ties and scarves, and to make washable bags for Covid-19 staff to transport their uniforms home to wash them to support infection control.
Karen Pearce, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (People) for Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We got in contact with Lisa to explore the possibility of a special edition gender free super hero shirt as this really fits with our non-binary focus this year.
“Inclusivity is a really important focus for all of our 14,000 staff and of course we have a number of superheroes who are doing such an amazing job in very challenging times.”
A spokesperson for Newcastle Hospitals NHS Charity said: “We are delighted to receive some of the proceeds from this special edition shirt to go towards our fund for our staff and patients.
“Our NHS colleagues are making sacrifices every day in the Covid-19 response for which we are extremely thankful and we are grateful for all the support we have received from the community.
“Our charity funds new ideas, research, equipment and technology which are over and above government NHS funding and every penny will make a difference to our hospitals and in the community.”
The charity is also encouraging people show their support in a number of ways including donating, please visit the charity website to find out more https://charity.newcastle-hospitals.nhs.uk
